A supermarket which is ruthless in its cost savings. Advertises itself as MERCILESSLY CHEAP.

Large amounts of surplus food, sourced from all over Europe is collected, re-distributed and then sold for almost nothing.

Look out for the CrazyCrapAisle , which does one week specials on items ranging from large popcorn filled chimmey sweeps to things that might actually be useful, such as socks, cameras, dvd players, foot spas, thermometers, whips, remote control switches, electric whisk-o-lait devices, wooly hats, shelving units, slippers, walkie talkies etc.

Notice the haphazard stacking of boxes and rubbish about the shop. This is great because when you do your shopping you collect empty boxes which you then use to take your shopping home in. Result: Lidl saves on having to pay people to collect them and disposal costs, hence you save. Also, it saves trees/plastic. Also, a cardboard box is superior to a plastic bag to carry stuff home in.

'Backwards' shoppers banned from store

A Swansea woman's been banned from her local Lidl store after turning her trolley the wrong way around at the checkout.

Patricia Evans was barred after pushing her trolley alongside the checkout facing forwards.

An assistant told her she had to turn it around says The Sun.

Patricia objected and a manager was called at the store in Penlan. After paying £30 for her shopping she was told: "Don't bother coming back - you are banned."

She said: "It was outrageous. They don't talk to you like that at Marks & Spencer."

A spokeswoman for Lidl said: "We do have a policy that trolleys must be correctly aligned for the checkouts. We are investigating this complaint."
