Current Status: Non-country.

Kurdish homeland encompassing parts of Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria and Armenia.

After World War I, France and the UK divided up large areas of the Middle East between them. The Kurds were forgotten and ended up being distributed between several countries (Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria) with no homeland of their own.

Kurdish land spread: Turkey (43%), Iran (31%), Iraq (18%), Syria (6%), former Soviet Union (2%).
Kurdish population spread: Turkey (48%), Iran (26%), Iraq (20%), Syria (4.5%), former Soviet Union (1.5%)
