The Aber Free Net was first used in 2001 by several users of OtherAber who were looking for a different sort of channel to talk on. AFNet was created as a result of the irc server athos.ivixor.net (sadly no longer with us) de-linking from BitterNet. Since then the network has seen many servers come and go. At the time of writing, 4 client irc servers are present in the network.
You can connect to the AFNet by pointing your irc client at one of the servers listed below, or at http://www.ivixor.net/irc.php if you are a web weenie.
Servers:
- irc.afnet.org.uk or irc.ivixor.net (round-robins which will redirect you to a random server from a pool)
Also:
- nozomi.ivixor.net (location: Telehouse, London, UK)
- feynman.the-void.thinkgeek.co.uk (location: Loughborough, UK)
- lleuad.ivixor.net (location: Aberystwyth, Wales, UK)
- vm.flxsource.org (location: ???)
- irc.oldum.info (location: Varna, Bulgaria)
-
irc.irkle.net -
widow.golder.org -
athos.ivixor.net(location: Hemel Hempstead, UK) -
zinc.ivixor.net(location: Hemel Hempstead, UK)
An ipv6 server is available at nozomi.v6.ivixor.net. See AboutIpv6 -- currently broken
If you're stuck behind a Facist firewall and are unable to connect to port 6667 remotely, point your irc client at ircweb.ivixor.net port 80.
